Chapter 12 Teaser

“Edward is there something you need to tell me?”

“No, why do you ask that?”

“Because you look like there is.” When he didn’t respond she asked, “Are you going to tell me what Eleazar said?”

Edward tried his best not to smirk or laugh but Bella’s attempt to look fierce was not coming off very well. She crossed her arms and huffed angrily. He glanced outside to thwart his snicker knowing that would only anger her more. The sidewalks were crowded. It didn’t matter day or night there were always a host of people moving about and cars following close behind the ones ahead of them. Always busy, always rushed. In a hurry for who knew what. When he turned back to Bella she was still posed in exactly the same manner she had been when he first turned.

“He thinks maybe Newton was responsible for what happened at the shop.” She relaxed her stance and he continued. “He told me to keep an eye on you.”

“He thinks Newton was behind it? How?” Edward shrugged. “I don’t know Bella but I think he’s right about Newton. He’s the only one that hates both me and Eleazar. What better way to hurt us then to hurt Jasper.”

“Yeah, but…” she looked down biting her lip.

“What can I get ya?” the waitress asked, standing next to the table. “Two western omelets and a coffee for me and a Mochachino for her,” Edward said quickly.

When she walked away Bella spoke. “He’s a Senator. If people found out he did something like that he’d be ruined. And for what? Because he doesn't like us.”

“Bella, people have murdered for lesser things.” He smiled as the waitress poured them coffee. He took a sip and then stared across at Bella. “You and I both know that Newton and Jacob cooked the books. If I were to guess there is a lot of money on the line which means I don’t put anything past them.”

“I guess you’re right. So if Eleazar can’t come I guess we’re back to contacting one of those other attorneys.”

“Eleazar said he would find a way to help us. But yes, I think we need to contact those attorneys when we get back to the hotel.”

“Okay,” Bella said as the waitress brought over their plates of food.

There was no talk as they both devoured their breakfast. With full stomachs and a head full of caffeine they felt good, ready to take on the world and problem solve this situation. As they walked down the street they felt cheerful and optimistic.

“Bella, I need to talk to you."

Chapter 11 Teaser

“That didn't take long,” she said looking up. She immediately frowned and sat upright.

“Well, I had to wait until your criminal left you alone. Are you really engaged to that…” Alec paused as his face twisted in anger. “…rapist.”

“He was cleared of that charge. He’s not a rapist and yes we are engaged.” She started to rise and he placed his hand on her, pushing her down.

“Why on earth would you lower your standards like that?”

“Fuck you, Alec. Get the hell away from me.”

“Oh Bella, I have missed you. We were so good together. Don’t you remember?” he said as his fingers grazed her cheek.

Bella narrowed her eyes before slapping him. “Don’t. Fucking. Touch. Me”

He grabbed her arms, smiling. “So feisty.”

“Get your hands off of her,” Edward growled out as he tossed Alec away from Bella.

Alec landed on the ground by the bench. He glanced up at Edward, the rage inside him coming to the surface. He rose to his feet, brushing off his coat and slacks. He stared at Edward indifferent, not fazed by the look of hostility on his face. This is what you wanted, he reminded himself.

“This doesn't concern you,” Alec stated coolly.

“To hell it doesn't.” Edward stepped closer to him.

“Everything that relates to Bella concerns me. Now, stay the hell away from us before I’m forced to hurt you.”

“I’ll call the police,” Alec stated angrily but there was an element of fear there as well.

“Go ahead. I’m a free man,” Edward replied with a sly smirk on his face. “I’m sure they’d be interested in knowing that you stalked us here.”

Alec glanced passed Edward and could see the security guard approaching. He smiled, “I’ll take that under consideration, convict.”

Before Edward could respond he heard someone behind him.

Chapter 10 Teaser

Jacob checked the address again and shrugged as he got out of the vehicle. He straightened his suit jacket and looked up and down the street. No one was out, no cars, no kids, nothing. He rapped on the door half expecting a maid or possibly a mistress to open the door versus the Senator himself.

“Come in,” The Senator said, already annoyed.

Jacob stepped inside and followed the Senator down the hall to the living room. The house was already furnished in a modern fashion. A lot of solid colors and unusual patterns. Abstract paintings were on several walls and large plants were interspersed throughout the room. It somehow didn't fit what he envisioned Michael living in. He took a seat on the coach and crossed his legs as the Senator walked to the bar and poured two drinks.

“So tell me why you bought this again?”

He turned, “Public relations.”

“Seems ridiculous to buy from Bella’s mom though.”

Newton smiled as he handed him a tumbler of scotch. “Renee and I have,” he grinned slightly. “History. I need her on my side.” He waved his hand in the air motioning around the room. “And what better way than lining her pocket with a nice commission. And it’s all completely legal of course.”

Jacob let out a loud laugh and nodded. “Then I guess it was a good move.”

Newton smiled before bringing his glass to his lips.  “We do have a problem though.”

Jacob took a gulp of the fine scotch. “We have more than one problem right now,” he stated seriously.

“Yes, that’s true.” The Senator ran his hand though his hair and sighed.

“Whitlock is my biggest concern..."
